it is suppose to be in the girl's bedroom (in my opinion, but each viewer can see it differently). she is ready to walk out of the house due to constant negitive comments on her artwork...

Oh. I caught the symbolism, but I figured it was more of a school setting. You know, the 'wall of artwork' that always shows up... where they tack up the things you draw for everyone to see...

it was actually shot in the studio where i teach. it was not the background i intended for the piece, but it had such contrast between her face and the happy drawings that i used the actual background from the photo...so, yes, i could be in a school, which is where it really was taken.
